The Austrian immunization plan provides protection for all age groups. Previously only possible through multiple immunizations, the so-called "combination immunization", based on latest medical research, provides infants with preventive protection against multiple, possibly even lethal, illnesses.
Special attention should be placed on immunization against Hepatitis. Due to a generally increased amount of travel activities, this infectious disease, which can manifest itself in many forms, is on the rise. An immunization against Hepatitis A and B, already part of standard immunization plans, is highly advisable.
Immunization against spring-summer encephalitis caused by tick bites is especially important. The alpine regions of Central Europe are among the major endemic areas. Tick bites can cause meningitis and the only protection against this potentially lethal disease is immunization.
During the winter months immunizations against the flu and pneumococci (pneumonia) are advisable. Especially elderly people but also people working in close contact with other people in stores, restaurants, public services, school and hospitals should protect themselves through immunization.
