If the feet hurt, the nicest hike can become torture! You will find some simple rules below. They should help you to reduce the appearance of blisters:
- When buying alpine boots, take your used an tested socks with you. Let an experienced sales-person advise you.
- Never wear two pairs of socks!
- Make sure to always wear dry socks and boots. (Especially if you are hiking for several days)
- Do not apply moisturizing creams with high water content to your feet. Simply use unguents with high fat content. The housemade calendula ointment and the so called "Hirschtalg-Cream" (made out of deer grease) are perfectly suitable because they also contain skin-caring components.
- If you suffer from known dents you should apply Compeed® plaster and stick as a prophylaxis. /li>
If you start to suffer from blisters despite these measures, here are some further rules:
- Never open blisters where the skin does not stretch! This skin is a protection against infection and a mechanical protection as well.
- Open blisters that stretch the skin under sterile conditions and cover them with a sterile dressing.
- If you have to hike with blisters you need to apply a sterile dressing, which should not be too thick, and fix it with a fabric tape. This tape, e.g. Leukotape, is available in different sizes.
- After you finish your tour, uncover the wound and let it dry in the air.
